This Is What Happens If You Place An Ice Cube On This Exact Point On Your Head

by

You might be slightly weirded out by the premise of this article but read on and you'll be pleasantly surprised to have learned something you probably didn't know before.
This secret is known to make you feel energized and make you look younger. And yes, all you need is one simple ice cube.
Feel the nape of your neck; where the base of your skull meets the top of your neck. This is called the Feng Fu. This is the pressure point you want to place the ice cube on.
If you put ice on it on a regular basis, your body rejuvenates itself allowing you to feel full of life and health.
These are some of the things it can do:
1. Improve your quality of sleep.
2. Improve your mood.
3. Heal your digestive system.
4. Help relieve colds.
5. Help relieve headaches, toothaches and pain.
6. Aids in healing respiratory diseases and cardiovascular disease.
7. Helps with thyroid issues.
8. Helps PMS.
9. Aids mental health.
This is how to properly target the Feng Fu pressure point:
Lie on your stomach, take your ice cube and place it right at the point indicated and hold it there for 20 minutes.
If you don't have time to lie there for 20 minutes, secure it with a scarf and go about your day. Do this regularly in the morning before breakfast and at night before bed with breaks of 2-3 days.
Don't be alarmed, after 30-40 seconds you'll feel some heat at the Feng Fu point but keep doing it and within the first few days of continuous use, you'll feel a europhic sense while your body releases endorphins.

5 foods to Avoid during Pregnancy

by
As you might know that a baby’s health is directly related to the health of mother’s therefore well balanced diet and proper nutrition is very important during the times of pregnancy for better health of the baby as well as the mother.  You can experience indigestion, constipation, nausea and several other problems during certain times of pregnancy which can be offset by employing a change in eating patterns or having the right amount of natural foods. However, there are certain foods that you can definitely avoid for your betterment of your health as well as your baby’s. Here’s a short yet descriptive list of five of those foods which you must avoid during your pregnancy period:
  1. Avoid big fishes: Avoid longer living big fish in your food which include shark, swordfish, King Mackerel and filefish etc. as they contain greater levels of Methyl Mercury which can prove to be harmful for the underdeveloped immature system of the unborn during pregnancy. On the contrary, small fishes such as sardines, albacore tuna and sardines provide high quality healthy fats & protein which are quite good for the mental development of the unborn.
  2. Avoid caffeine: medical professionals haven’t come to any consensus on what is the right or maximum amount of caffeine that should be intake during pregnancy; however, it is believed that having an intake quantity of more than 200 mg can increase the risk of miscarriages in women. Another study has revealed that more than 100 mg of caffeine enhances the possibilities of growth restriction. So, if possible, pregnant women should try to curb their daily intake of caffeine as much as possible and if that is difficult then they should try to limit the daily intake within 100 mg mark.
  3. Under cooked eggs and meats: Under cooked foods can develop food borne illness which can adversely affect the health of the woman as well as the baby. Try to cook them to an appropriate temperature before even thinking of eating meats and eggs. For eggs, you have to cook it till its white and yellow part becomes firm and nice.
  4. Avoid fried foods:  Fried foods are fun to eat but not so much if you are pregnant woman. The first thing that you must keep in mind is that as your baby grows; the stomach starts to shrink in and fried foods are quite hard to digest therefore with no extra space they can cause the problem of indigestion in the woman. So, it is better to avoid fried foods during pregnancy to avoid indigestion and other stomach related problems.
  5. Avoid liver: Vitamin A is not recommended in times of pregnancy and liver contains that in abundance. Studies have shown that having high levels of vitamin A during pregnancy can cause some complications in the child therefore it is better to stay away from liver to avoid complications.
The above-mentioned food advice can really help you and your child stay healthy during pregnancy.

Why You Should Walk, Not Run, Your Way To Fat Loss.

by
For the longest time, cardio was touted as the best fat loss method out there. Fortunately, this has been disproved time and time again over recent years. While steady-state cardio can still have its place, today I want to make a case for why I think you should walk, not run, for fat loss.
There is no denying that LISS (low intensity steady state) cardio can be an effective tool for weight loss. I want to share a few glaring problems with this method and explain why I never suggest my clients get on the treadmill.
1 – Notice above I said effective tool for weight loss. I didn’t say fat loss. The biggest problem I have with cardio is that when you burn calories running, you are burning calories from fat AND muscle. Your body doesn’t pick and choose where the calories come from that it’s burning. This is very bad as you never want to decrease muscle mass on your body. Muscle is more metabolic and burns more calories at rest than does fat.
2 – Overexercising, or long duration cardio sessions, increase cortisol (a stress hormone) which can thenlead to increased cravings and overcompensation for calories burned. So, while you may burn a couple hundred calories after spending an hour on the treadmill, when you get done you are ravenously hungry. Smoothies seem like healthy drinks so you pop in Jamba Juice on your way home and grab one because you “deserve a treat” and the drink ends up being more calories than what you just spent an hour on the treadmill trying to burn. So you could easily put yourself into a caloric surplus by running too often.
**Over exercise has the same hormonal effects as sleep deprivation. Both make you leptin-resistant(unable to signal brain you’re full), both raise ghrelin (insatiable hunger) and eventually become insulin-resistant because cortisol is too high / too often. All of this in turn can lead to weight gain.
**Another caveat to cardiovascular exercise is the negative impact it potentially has on thyroid function. T4 (inactive) is the primary hormone produced by the thyroid. T4 is then converted to T3 (active) to be used in a properly functioning metabolism. Too high levels of cortisol not only impair the body’s ability to create the T4 hormone, it also suppresses the conversion of T4 to T3 which then leads to adysfunctional metabolism. This equates to decreased ability to burn fat, lack of energy and a host of other issues.
3 – Running is considered a low impact exercise. However, as you increase your distance, that’s a lot of times you are banging your feet into the ground. Surfaces matter, along with great shoes, but if you are overweight, this is detrimental long-term to your joints (knees, in particular).
Recapping: cardio alone decreases muscle mass (causing metabolism to become less efficient), can disrupt hormonal balance (leading to weight GAIN) and can have a negative impact on your joint health.
While walking may not provide the same calorie burning effects as running (not the purpose), it can prove to be a healthier alternative for some individuals.
Where running increases cortisol, walking decreases it. This might not sound very sexy if burning calories is more important to you, but long-term this is much better for your overall health. When cortisol levels are lower, the opposite of all the negative effects mentioned above happen. You’re setting yourself up to be more insulin-sensitive and enabling calorie burning from other exercise. You’re able to manage and control hunger and cravings causing you to eat less naturally (eat less, exercise less = fat loss). You increase the presence of neurotransmitters like serotonin (comfort) and dopamine (motivation) that enhance mood and overall wellness. All of these less-fancy things lead to a happier, healthier you.
So how much should you walk? As much as possible! As we roll into Spring, if you live in a warmer climate try to get 30-60 minute outdoor leisure walks in at least 3 days a week. Go up to 6 days if possible. Replace those cardio sessions with walks. Try to schedule in other stress-relieving activities like a massage, sauna, hot bath, or even naps!
If you really want to ramp up your fat loss for beach body season, incorporate metabolic resistance trainingworkouts into your regimen as well. 2-3 high intensity, 20-30 minute workouts done each week coupled with a well-written nutrition plan and you will never have to set foot on another treadmill again!

8 vegetables you should be eating to boost your disease-fighting potential

by
Tomatoes    -   Tomato contains amazing amounts of lycopene which is said to have anti oxidant properties. Studies have shown that tomato can reduce prostate cancer especially in synergy with broccoli. A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute suggested that ‘the intake of tomatoes and tomato products is associated with a decreased risk of prostate cancer. This benefit may be related to the antioxidant properties of lycopene, but other potential mechanisms and other beneficial tomato-based components instead of or combined with lycopene cannot be excluded’.
Broccoli - Broccoli contains a substantial amount of nutrients that are extremely good for health including vitamins A, C, folic acid, fiber and calcium. Broccoli contains an unusual combination of three phytonutrients, glucoraphanin, gluconasturtiian, and glucobrassicin. Together these nutrients have a strong impact on our body’s detoxification system. Eating raw broccoli is the best way to get all its offered nutrients.
Brussels sprouts –  Brussels sprouts are very high in fiber, and they belong to the disease-fighting cabbage family. Indeed, they look like miniature cabbages. Like broccoli and cabbage — fellow cruciferous vegetables — Brussels sprouts may protect against cancer with their indole, a phytochemical. These little green veggies are especially important for pregnant woman because they’re packed with folic acid, a B-vitamin that prevents neural tube defects. Brussels sprouts are also packed with vitamins C and K as well as fiber, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids.
Carrots  - These orange-wonders are loaded with eye, skin and hair-enriching nutrients. They’re also the richest vegetable source of some important antioxidants, like vitamin A. And because they’re rich in vitamin C, carrots protect your cardiovascular system from damage. Along with 400% of your daily vitamin A, a serving of carrots will provide vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, C, E and K, and plenty of fiber, manganese and potassium. Organic carrots have a little bit of everything.
Sweet potato - Sweet potatoes are absolutely loaded with nutrition and considered to be one of nature’s most perfect vegetables. Packed with beta carotene and vitamin A, one serving of sweet potatoes provides more beta carotene than 23 cups of broccoli. One daily serving of sweet potatoes per day can greatly reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, and even cancer.
Eggplant  - Eggplants high amount of phytonutrients has the ability to protect brain cell membranes from free radical cells from damaging them. The high amount of B complex vitamins in eggplant also has the ability to keep us thinking clearly and prevent stress. The antioxidants in eggplant even have the ability to prevent brain tumors and cancer from forming by attacking the free radicals that cause tumors cancers.
Spinach - Spinach is a nutrition superstar, even a fairly good source of iron. It’s loaded with vitamins and minerals, some of which are hard to find in other foods.
Onions - Onions are a very good source of vitamin C, B6, biotin, chromium, calcium and dietary fibre. In addition, they contain good amounts of folic acid and vitamin B1 and K. A 100 gram serving provides 44 calories, mostly as complex carbohydrate, with 1.4 grams of fibre. Onions contain a large amount of sulfur and are especially good for the liver. As a sulfur food, they mix best with proteins, as they stimulate the action of the amino acids to the brain and nervous system.

4 Factors To Set You Up For Optimal Health

by
As human beings, our bodies are all incredibly unique and therefore there are different things that we each must do in order to improve the quality of our own health. However, here are four key factors that I believe can set anyone up for success in improving their health.

OPTIMAL HEALTH IS A 360 EXPERIENCE

Most people out there focus on only two things when it comes to good health: exercise and diet. And there are even those that just focus on one or the other. The truth is that health is a synergistic relationship between many areas of our lives such as relationships, career, spirituality, nutrition and exercise.
Our main goal is to maintain balance within all of these areas. When one area is lacking, it’s kind of like a domino effect, which throws off the other areas. We often don’t even realize it’s happening. If you’re stressed out from a job you hate, no matter how healthy you eat or how much you exercise, most likely you won’t be feeling as happy or as healthy as you would like. If you’re in a bad relationship, whether it’s with a boyfriend or a friend, that added stress is going to affect other areas of your life as well, preventing you from being your authentic, joyful self. It’s so important to start addressing each area of your life and see where you can start creating more balance.

TRUST YOUR BODY…IT WILL LISTEN TO YOU

The reason that we often have such strong cravings for food that isn’t so good for us is because we’ve starved our bodies of the nutrients it actually needs and replaced them with addicting substances that makes us want more of the bad stuff. Think about how much more you tend to eat if you have a burger and fries and how much more controlled your appetite is with a healthy salad. Trans fats, MSG, and sugar are just a few of the substances that we put into our bodies that have damaging effects on our health and even a drug-like effect on our minds that make us feel “addicted” to foods containing them. This is especially true for sugar.
But there is some good news here. If you slowly start to introduce healthier foods into your diet, even without changing your current diet too much to begin with, you’ll see that in time you will begin craving those healthier options. This is not an addiction but rather that your body will finally be getting the fuel and nutrients it needs to perform daily functions and will begin sending you signals to give it more of the good stuff! You won’t always be thinking “if it tastes good, then it must be bad for you.” Good nutritious food will begin to taste just as delicious!

CHANGE DOESN’T HAVE TO HAPPEN OVERNIGHT

This is probably the most important concept to learn when going on a journey to improve your health. You have to be realistic about time and your expectations. I personally find this comforting because when you set time restrictions that are too tight and you fall off, you’re more likely to get down on yourself. The truth is you very will could have ups and downs in your journey, but as long as you get back up you will see changes.
Now, you can go on a crash diet and lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks, but what’s going to happen after those 2 weeks? You’re more likely to put all that weight and then some back on. This is why diets don’t work. And oftentimes the methods by which they operate are harming your health at the cost of you losing a few pounds.
Optimal health is a journey. That is how I work with my clients in my 3-month Body & Soul Reset program. It’s about looking at our whole life, as mentioned in the beginning of this article, and making gradual changes that stick. These changes will become habits and before you know it you will be leading a healthy lifestyle and not going on crash diets all the time and repeatedly getting frustrated with chronic illnesses that have you running to the doctor every month.
And did I mention you will feel AMAZING!

THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS

The power of the mind is incredible. We can achieve so much just by thinking a certain way. I truly do believe that the more positive vibes you put out there, the more positivity you will attract. I have experienced this personally in my own life and have seen how this concept has worked for so many other people as well. Believe you can and you will! No matter who tries to get you down, or what discouraging thoughts may come into your mind, fight them off with loads of self love and positivity. Your mind and body will thank you for it. Positivity has a tremendous impact on our health and achieving whatever goals we’ve set for ourselves.
I find a great way to stay in this frame of mind is to find a quote or mantra that speaks to you. I love quotes and I post them everywhere…at my work desk, on my iPhone wallpaper, and even around my apartment. There are so many situations and people that can get us down and it’s our job to stay strong and keep going. The way we react to situations is totally in our control so having a some encouraging words around you to remind you that you are strong, amazing and capable is a great way to keep you from falling off track. Whether it’s quotes or meditating or something else, find what works for you.

CELL PHONE SAFETY

by
CELL PHONE SAFETY

A lady has now changed her habit of how she lists her names on her cell phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag, which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet, etc., was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called her hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I received your text asking about our Pin number and I replied a little while ago.'
When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from their bank account.

Moral lesson:

a. Lock the keypad with a password if your phone allows it!

b. Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc.

c. And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling back.

d. Also, when you're being texted by friends or family to meet them somewhere unusual, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON
Even if this doesn't pertain to you....Pass it on to your family and friends. It may be useful.
